Now you can personalize everything from passport covers to handbags to luggage.

Since its founding in 1854, Louis Vuitton has celebrated the art of travel and voyage in both the physical as well as spiritual sense. During the early years the luxury brand created leather trunks emblazoned with their now signature monogram print along with personalized details including initials and colorful trims. Case in point the Gaston-Louis Vuitton Steamer bag which dates back to 1901 and features a bold graphic across the canvas or a 1911 trunk made for couturier Paul Poiret with his name painted in large lettering. What began as a functional need to identify one’s luggage evolved into a status symbol and a canvas for creativity. By the 1920s, the atelier expanded on this idea with the notion of custom monograms and then in 2008, came the official first personalization service. It’s fitting then that last week the brand launched Mon Monogram, an expansion designed to make your passport cover or handbag feel uniquely yours.

Covering everything from travel bags to rolling luggage, travel accessories, city bags, and small leather goods, styles that you can make your own include the Keepall, Horizon, as well as the Christopher backpack. Customization is done by order and made by hand courtesy of Louis Vuitton’s artisans in France so don’t expect the pieces immediately — everything takes approximately three weeks.  You can access the Mon Monogram service digitally as well as through in-store locations to see the array of colors, typefaces, and stripe designs available. For those seeking something a bit more playful, there are also vintage-inspired patches to give the spirit of the Belle Époque or Art Nouveau era to your classic Louis Vuitton travel pieces. Check it all out here.
